Best Way To Visualise Data Model?

Hi All,

Does anyone have any suggestions on a nice way to think of/visualise the D365 F&O Data Model?

So for example, if I were thinking of this from a Customer Engagement POV, I would say:

Solution > Entity > Form > Field.

However, with F&O being less CDS based and more Database oriented, I'd like to be able to visualise the same.

I 'm afraid, D365FO is too big to visualise in a single Data Model.

But if you split it into modules, you may get a better and easier view of the basic data structure.

So, if I look at this from a module POV, how would I best visualise the data model of just a specific module?

Again, you have to first figure out the datasets before being able to visualise them.

Good to start would be to choose some of the main master tables in the module, parameters, inquiries, periodic..

Then explore the tables behind them, and try to relate them or conncet the flow of data within.

Or, switch the AOT to "Model view", where you can see all elements belonging to each model.

using Visual Studio would help a lot in understanding schema and it's relationship

could also use other VS tools for better visualization

Below link has ERD diagrams for modules but its for AX 2012 . This will give you some idea about how tables are related.

Other than this , you have to do your own research to find out more details about tables and their relationships using visual studio.
