I need a posting account to be a fixed allocation account instead.

Hello!  Glad to see a number of GP2010 questions still--we are planning to upgrade in the fall.  I have what was supposed to be a fixed allocation account that was set up incorrectly as a posting account.  There is activity in it now, so I can't delete it.  What can I do?  Thanks!

Since you cannot change the account type (posting to allocation) I think you need to set up a proper fixed allocation account and then transfer the balance from the account set up incorrectly to the new fixed allocation account. Would that distribute the balance correctly?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

To add to Leslie's suggestion.  If you need the Fixed Allocation account to have the account code you set as the Posting Account, you could use Professional Services Tools to fix.

    1. Use Account Modifier to change the code of the existing account to a new code.

    2. Set up the Fixed Allocation account.

    3. Deal with the balances.

    Cheers

Thank you Ladies!  Heather, I think you are on the right track on this, but how do I access Professional Service Tools?

    Hi

It became free at one point and now with the later versions it is part of the install CD.  It may need to be provided as a separate chunk file for 2010 - I can't remember.  You could see if it is on your install CD.

If it is part of your current install, if you right-click in the Navigation Pane on the left hand side of GP and choose to Add Window, you will find it under Technical Services Tools --> Project.

Someone else may be able to remember the more specific details for that version.

    Cheers

Thanks Heather!  It does not come up as an available window to add currently--I'll see if I can track down the install disk.  I really appreciate your help!
