Report Writer dead in Dynamics GP v11 (2010)?

Posted on by 945

I have been through the Dynamics GP v11 Product Strategy demo and am curious about :

  • Now that reports are designed in and printed in Word 2010 - what happens to customers without the Office suite?
  • Will orders, invoices, purchase orders etc that are sent to suppliers/clients in the Word format be 'read-only' (or something equivalent of a non-editable pdf format?)
  • Is report writer dead?

Thanks,

Ritesh

Report Writer cannot die this soon. Together wih Dexterity, they are part of the engine with which GP is running on. Unless Microsoft rewrites GP completely in .NET which I doubt would happen soon, or they artificially block us out from using Report Writer in the front end.

    1.  You do not need to use Office Suite at all.  It is an option.

    2.  Yes, they say the documents formated by Word will be read-only

    3.  We can only hope, but NO.  All Documents are still created by Report Writer and either printed directly or routed through Word if you want.
