salesperson on opportunity product entity

I've got a situation where I have 4 different salespeople on the account screen, and I want to pull that information into the order product screen (the line item level) as the products are added; I've tried to do this through both mappings as well as workflows with no luck.

I can't seem to get the mappings to work because it's not really an associated view...right? or did I miss something? I can't get the workflows to work, because I can't get the workflow to update the opportunity product as an entity.

anyone have any advice or suggestions? something I may have missed? kinda at a loss.

Brian, you are right - the opportunity product entity cannot be updated by a workflow - a bit silly, isn't it! Before I suggest a way to handle this, just explain your requirement again - you have 4 sales people on the account screen - how many on the Opportunity screen and how many on the Opportunity Product?

There is probably a solution using JavaScript and the OData REST endpoint...

    Regards, Paul

I'm not sure if I understand what you are trying to do.

You have 4 lookups for Salesperson (I.E. Users) on the Account form and want that to be added to the Order Form?

Do you have 4 Lookups in the order from also for the 4 Salespersons?

If so, mappings should do it.

If you don't want to have 4 lookups at the Order level; have you considered "Connections" to solve the problem?

well, we have 4 different salepeople there because there are different lines of business selling at the same accounts. Because we're hooking this up to GP, we want to on a line item basis at Opportunity product, Quote product or Order product levels pull the appropriate saleperson onto the line item based (perhaps) on the form they are using. I had not at this point mapped the information down to the Opportunity, Quote or Order levels, but assumed because of the 'Associated view' requirement, that that might be a missing step. hmm, think I will still have to do a customization to make this work?

Well, you can add the different sales person fields to each form, hide the owner on the Product Line Item and create a workflow that sets the owner upon creation of Product Line Item. The workflow should make the owner = CreatedBy.

That should set the owner based on the different sales person regardless of the form they started creating the line item from.

    Does that make sense?
