Printer/Scanner set up help!

I am having trouble setting up my POS (RMS 2.0 / Windows 8.1) work with my receipt printer and bar code scanner.

Here is the list of devices I am trying to connect:
CRS MODEL: 57 POS Cash Drawer
Epson TM-T88IV M129M Thermal Receipt Printer
Metrologic MS3580 POS Automatic Omnidirectional Laser Barcode Scanner Reader USB.

Can you help me with the set up and may be a basic walk through (30 minutes).
If so please let me how much you would charge for that. I am looking to get the set up done as soon as possible.

Thank in advance
Kris

If the cash drawer plugs into the printer, you can configure the printer driver to open the drawer.

If you use the Windows printer driver, there is an option under Advanced to pop the drawer, typically set to Document Start.

If you use the OPOS driver, define the printer first then define the cash drawer on the same port.

The scanner may be plug-and-play by default to emulate a keyboard wedge. If so, you can test scanning in Notepad. If the cursor does not advance to the next line, use the manufacturer's setup scan sheet to add a Carriage Return to every scan.

If not a plug-and-play scanner, install the OPOS driver and test it there.

Next go into Store Operations Manager and select Database, Registers, Register List, double-click the station you are configuring, and define your devices.

Example, Receipt Printer 1, Windows driver, <driver name>. Or OPOS driver, device name.

If cash drawer plugs into printer and you are using the Windows driver, do not define the cash drawer.

If cash drawer plugs into printer and you are using the OPOS driver, define the cash drawer.

If cash drawer is USB, install the OPOS driver for the drawer and define the device.

If keyboard wedge scanner, do not define the scanner. If OPOS, enter the device name under Scanner.

    Hi Kris,

I wanted to provide you with some direction if I may.

Make sure that you've gone to the Epson Expert site and created a username and password before starting please.

The drivers are in the development area Kris.

    1. I do not recommend that you download the newest drivers, I've heard pretty good things about 2.68e OPOS drivers or something close to that.

    2. I recommend that you follow the directions in this link to get you going:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836447

    3. If you've already tried installing OPOS drivers yourself, I'd recommend doing a system to restore to a date before you installed them to effectively remove them.

    4. Setup and test the printer first using the OPOS utility (when you see the screen that says give the device a name in OPOS) make it simple.

(printer 1) for example then do the check health. If it passes...great now go into RMS

    5. Then set it up in RMS you'll see a LDN (logical device name) make it "exactly" the same name as you did in the OPOS and test it.

If it passes...great move onto the cash drawer setup it's in the same document.

The principle is exactly the same for the scanner use the OPOS configuration utility, test it and then go into RMS. If it doesn't pass the check health contact the manufacturer directly.

Hope this helps you out pretty quickly Kris.

Thanks a lot both to RMS Wizard and Dynamics101, especially Dynamics101.

Your directions worked like a charm and I am able to get the RMS set up and process a sample order through it.

Just in case it might help, I will try to summarize my process/problems.

First, apparently I installed wrong drivers for the printer. Uninstalling/reinstalling did nor work. As suggested above, I had to do system restore and install the correct drivers downloaded from Epson Expert website.

However, for whatever reason, the system restore messed my SQL server installation and whatever I do, I could not get it working.

I used System Recover to restore the computer to default factory conditions (erase everything). Before installing SQL server, I installed the OPOS drivers for the printer and the cash register. Still I had issues getting SQL server installed and it took me like 10-15 attempts to finally get SQL server installed properly.

I don't know if I installed the OPOS for the scanners, but somehow they do work with the RMS Store Operations.

Again, thanks for your suggestions without which I would be still lost.

You took a long procedure in restoring your RMS and the OPOS drivers for both printer and cash drawer. Next time, try as much as you can to install SQL2012 and skip the installation of 2005 when installing RMS. The only bad thing about installing SQL2012 is that the instance of SQL2012 may not work when you are performing backup from RMS. Backup has to be done in SQL2012 rather on RMS.
