OLE attachment export

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

We have been storing employee photos in the attachment field on the Employee Maintenance screen (in the OLE Containers, typically as JPEG). Due to some recent requests, we are wondering if there is a way to export all of these attachments to a document and associate them to their employee. It seems like quite a task to accomplish without something being available to assist.

I have found the local drive location of the files, but they are compressed by GP and not readable.

Thanks, -JL

To save a copy of a resume/picture  or additional information use the note attachment to the right of last name

Go to the "Paperclip Icon"  (next to Attach)

    Choose Edit>>Insert New Opject.

    Choose “CREATE FROM FILE”

Then use the BROWSE to drill down to your file (needs to be in a shared location that will not change).

    Check off the LINK

Then CHECK OFF  “Display as Icon” (will show the icon when you open the attachment).

    OK

Any files saved like this should be in a location that they can be accessed by everyone and they will not be renamed or moved.

By using the Save as Icon, you can attach multiple files as needed.

It sounds like you are imbedding the files into the note instead of linking the files. If you are imbedding there is no way to remote the picture, however if you are linking the files then you should already have them stored in another location.
