Hi all,

We are an organization who have a lot of customized objects and we use a Dynamics NAV licence to do that.

Do we need a BC developer licence to upgrade BC?

Thanks in advance,

Antonio da Silva

    Hello,

For upgrades, you always need to upload a Microsoft Business Central Partner ( Developer ) license to convert the DB ( database) .

Microsoft partner licenses are far more powerful than customer licenses, always been like this.

    Please, review Microsoft docs

    docs.microsoft.com/.../converting-a-database

Upload the Business Central Partner license to the database.

For more information, see Uploading a License File for a Specific Database.

Important >  The license that you upload must be a developer license. During the conversion, the development environment will convert the report objects that are stored in the old database.

If you are upgrading from NAV to BC, then you need BC Developer license. Get a help from partner because it is not as easy as you think.

If you are reimplementing from scratch to BC, you don't need dev license.

    Hi,

To upgrade to Business Central On-Prem if you are doing yourself then for sure you need a developer license otherwise you cannot take customizations and upgrade. If you are doing it with the help of a partner who have developer license then you do not need it.

A developers license isn’t needed. If on premise then you need to buy the objects. If SaaS then objects are free
