When to use Migrating Email Router Data

Hi all,

Our current organization is CRM2011 we are upgrading it to 365( Our servers are totally changed)

In our upgrade process we restore back up of our organization from 2011 and upgrade it till 365.

Currently in 2011 we have email router. In new 365 we also need to set up Server Side Email. (CRM on premise with our own Exchange server).

I know that I have to below steps based on the below link (Connect Dynamics 365 (on-premises) to Exchange Server (on-premises))
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt622062.aspx

1-Create an email server profile

2-Configure default email processing and synchronization

3-Configure mailboxes

4-Approve email

5-Test configuration of mailboxes

6-Test email configuration for all mailboxes associated with an email server profile

The question that I have is do I have to use Migrate Email Router Data or not and if the answer YES when and why?

What happens if I Don't.

I appreciate your help!

Maryam

    Hi Maryam,

One of our clients migrated to Dynamics 365 from 2013 last year. They had Email Router for 2013, and we upgraded the email router to D365 Email Router. Everything is working properly, and the migration process was very smooth.

Saying that, the email router has been deprecated, and will no longer be available after this release. We are in the process of migrating to Server Side Sync now.

Personally, I think it would be easier to migrate to Email Router to 365, so that you don't have unforseen issues, and after they are on D365, start planning your move to Server Side Sync (using Test Server and Organizations).

    Hope this helps.

Thank you so much. I am trying to see if we can use the same approach. I am agreeing with you it sounds much more safer to do it your way.

So I just can simply change my email router setting to point to the new server and it will work and later i can do synchronization.

But also I am wondering if that is not an option what should I do?

If that is not an option for you, set up a test server (which is a replicate of your production), and configure it for Server Side Sync. Make sure it works for you, and then you follow the same logic for Production when you are ready.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your help!

I worked with another group in our organization and it seems that we we create the Profile we do not need any migration of Email Router Data.

It seems that they have done it so I will go ahead and change it to the Server side.

I have not done it yet but I think as long as we have an account that has email associated to that we can use that one for teh Configuration. Once I actually do it I will post more details here.

And Of course we need to test as Aric mentioned
