Account structure

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone has come across this issue before. I create an ledger account number outside the account structure and I am able to create a general journal and validate and post a transaction to this ledger account number.

The number is definitely outside the account structure so it shouldn't let me. Any thoughts as to why it isn't checking?

Thanks

Mark

    Hello Mark,

What AX2012 Version are you running? (Cu7, Cu8,...)

The earlier versions included numerous errors in relation to the account structures.

If you run an old AX2012 Version I suggest that you have a look at LifeCycle Services for an available hotfix.

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

    Hi

    Kernel version 6.3.1000.1873

    Server version 6.3.1000.1873

    Application version 6.3.1000.309

    CU8 I believe

    Hello Mark,

    Yes that's CU8.

I would suggest that you have a look at the KB articles on the following site to identify whether this is a bug that has been fixed in one of the later versions/Cu's.

    community.dynamics.com/.../overview-of-microsoft-dynamics-ax-build-numbers

Please also check the LifeCycle Services Website to check whether this might be a new issue that is not included in the CU updates yet.

A last thing that you could check - but I guess you already did that - is whether your account structure is activated.

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

    Thanks Ludwig

I've checked the KB articles and been through LCS but can't find anything.

Yes, the account structure is activated

    Hi Mark,

Can you provide an example? If you have e.g. account numbers using 5 digits and the new one is 4 digits, it might still be validated within your structure.

E.g. 10000..13000 also allows 1011 as it is alphabetically sorted, not numeric.

I just found that the combination 00000001..4999999 in the account structure configuration is causing the issue, for example, if I try to add account number 112233445566 to the account number I get the error - the node with criteria 112233445566 overlaps the node with criteria 00000001..49999999

Not sure how 112233445566 overlaps the range 00000001..49999999 as it is clearly well out of the structure of this range?

    Hello MarkHaz78,

The setup you describe does not make sense to me. Do you use 8-digit or 12-digit ledger accounts? If you use 12-digit ledger accounts also your account structure should include 12-digit numbers. Can you try changing your account structures and test if posting does work then?

The company in question use 8 digit ledger accounts, however the problem is that we can create 9, 10, 11, 12 and so on account numbers and post journals to these accounts, however, the account structure in place is only for 8 digits long, so we shouldn't be able to post to anything over 8 digits.

When investigating, I created a 12 digit account (112233445566) and tried to add to the account structure, I was unable to as it said the node with criteria 112233445566 overlaps the node with criteria 00000001..49999999 (this range is already in the account structure). I can't understand why I would get that message as my 12 digit account number clearly does not overlap this range?

    Hello MarkHaz78,

Have you tried entering 8x the sign "#" in your Chart of accounts - main account mask field. By doing this you should be able to prevent that users are Setting accounts with more Digits than you define

    Please see: technet.microsoft.com/.../hh227530.aspx

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig
