The upgrade has been run on an account with and without a password.  The version of SQL is 2008 and this is the main station.

    Thanks.

Are you running the upgrade under an account without a password?  Which version of SQL server are you using?  Also is this the main station or a secondary station, ie does it hold the database?

Many thanks - this was been run as an administrator.  It is running on Windows XP Pro 32 bit.  In the local groups all the users and groups were there.  One suggestion was to remove these and run POS ensure connector which recreated the groups and users but still resulted in the same error message.  So no further!

are you running the upgrade as an administrator?  also which windows os are you using?

POS 2009 uses windows users and groups for access control.  If you open Computer management and navigate to Local Users and Groups, Under groups PSO 2009 creates a bunch of groups that start with R#.

Make sure your groups are there, you should have 9 of them.
