Inventory Item - Update Currency Decimals

My client on GP 2016 16.00.0404 would like to modify the currency decimals for an inventory item. The challenge that this item will always be in an order and therefore can't be modified. Is there any way to modify an item even while there's items in open sales transactions? Looking for a work around.

    The Item Currency Master (IV00105) holds the number of currency decimals for a specific item. Also, the Item Master (IV00101) has this field. Are you using/registered for the multicurrency module? I have changed the DECPLCUR field in both the item master and the item currency master to accomplish a change my item currency. You may also want to go into the tables where existing transactions live and change the same field. For instance, if you have an item on an unposted SOP document, you might want to go into the SOP10200 table and change the value of the DECPLCUR field so that it matches the new value. If I haven't changed existing transactions it hasn't messed anything up because the data is stored with 5 decimals regardless of your setting.

    Hi Leslie, thanks so much for the response. They are looking to change the currency decimal for an inventory item (not the quantity). Is there an unsupported way to do this?

    As Cheryl said, there is no supported method to change the decimal on an item while it's on an open sales transaction. Therefore, you'll need to use an unsupported method. If you are wanting to change the decimal places for the quantity, you'll need to change the DECPLQTY in the IV00101 table. If you want to change the open transactions, you'll need to do the same thing in the transaction line detail tables. I've done this before and haven't suffered any ills.

    There is no supported method to change this while the item is in an open document.  

    Not sure if the community would have any other alternatives for you.
