GP2013 AA Alias Maintenance Window access

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have 2 GP2013 users, both set up as Accounting Managers. One has access to create AA aliases and the other does not. How do I give the 2nd user access to the AA Alias maintenance window?

I can't say that I've heard of any GP window showing once we give a user security access to it, then when we stop and re-launch the application to start a dexsql.log that it is again missing.

The only thing I can think of, that could potentially cause something like this, is when launching Dynamics GP, wait until the application is fully loaded before clicking on any of the menus to open windows or anything like that.

What I mean by fully loaded is that across the top menu, along with 'Microsoft Dynamics GP' you also see Transactions, Cards, Inquiry, Reports, etc. and at the bottom of the application, the user ID and date are filled in, not grayed out.

I've seen a case or two where we get odd behavior like this when users start clicking menus before the application is fully loaded, which can cause users to see menu items they actually don't have access (even though they can't launch those window or objects) so it isn't completely unheard of, that it could cause something odd like this.

Other than that, have this user try moving to a different machine / different install of Dynamics GP and see if the issue follows the user or stays with her own machine, if each user has their own install of Dynamics GP on their own local workstation.

If the users all use the same Dynamics GP application on a terminal server environment, do any other users experience this issue or is it only this one user?

Again, if you run this script against your system database, does this one user have a record returned or not?

    Select * from SY10000 where DICTID = 3180 and secrestype = 2 and securityID = 22176

    Thanks

Ok. My bad. I ran it against the company db. Now I ran it against the GP db, and no users show up. I added Admin_AA_001 to the user and the Alias option showed up after relaunching GP, but she got an access error. When I closed GP to turn on the dexsql.log and relaunched, logged in as the same user, and the Alias option was not available again. This is very strange. She insisted that sometimes it appears in the Cards-Analytical Accounting Window and then it's gone. I thought she was confused, but now I see she is not. Any ideas?

Make sure you run the script against your DYNAMICS or system database for GP, it's actually a SQL View, not a table, that pulls information for user's security and puts them into one place.

I get this error when running the script in SQL:  Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

    Invalid object name 'SY10000'.

Ok, this window is, by default, given to users only through the 'ADMIN_AA_001*' security task. This security task is give to users, again by default, only through the same 'ADMIN_AA_001*' security role.

If you run this script against your system database, you'll see which users have access to this Alias Maintenance window for AA:

    Select * from SY10000 where DICTID = 3180 and secrestype = 2 and securityID = 22176

If the user(s) don't have access to this security task or role, you can try assigning it to them or create a custom role/task to give them access to that window.

    Thanks

No error, the option does not show up in the list. Cards-Financial-Analytical Accounting-Alias is the last option in my list, below account access, but this user's list ends at account access.

    Hello Steph,

Does this other user actually get a permissions error, or they just don't see this AA Alias Maintenance window at all to open?

--if an actual permissions issue is seen, you could use a dexsql.log to re-create this message, then look at the end of the log for a zDP_SY10000SS_1 procedure call, which should be what the user doesn't have access to, causing this error.

I'm not familiar with any 'AA Alias Maintenance' window, so if you can tell me the actual name of the window you're referring to, I could probably give you more information as well.

    Thanks,
