How to filter lookup value field

I am trying to limit the data that comes back in our regarding look up field. 

I did some research, and found that you can filter it in on the form. See highlighted screen shot below. 

When i go to my form, i dont have that option (second screen shot). Is there another way to do this? Any ideas why it doesnt show for me?

    Hi nvrhughes,

    In general, Each lookup field can show ‘Related Records Filtering’ section in 'Field Properties' dialog.

    But Regarding field is one special lookup field, which will auto populate all those entities which support "Activities", and it can't show ‘Related Records Filtering’ section in 'Field Properties' dialog.

    So only option is to add a pre search filter through code, you can refer following links:
