Hello Everyone,
Quick synopsis of the issue:
6 Users (Terminal Server and Great Plains)
Windows 2003 box, 4 GBs of ram, Xeon Quad Core, 32 bit system (hosted off site)
GP 8.0 / Microsoft Office 2003 Pro (Everyone connects via Terminal Services loaded on same machine as GP)
SQL Software installed on separate machine
Issue:
Randomly, despite how many users are on the system (Max of 6), the system will experience a sort of schizophrenic state, not allowing some users to conitnue to do what they are doing, not allowing them to log out (hangs indefinitely when they try) not allow others to log in (either hangs indefinitely when trying or takes 10 to 20 minutes to log the user in with limited use of applications -- they just won't fire up when clicked on) and so forth.
As the administrator of the hardware I am able to log in when this happens but it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to log in and I have access to about 80% of the applications: Can't load up GP and can't get to the printers and faxes window (among other things).
The event log usually (not always) shows an excel application hang error and them immediately a Dynamics.exe app hang error (I can't tell if they are the cause or the result of something else going on). I cannot recreate this on demand and when it does happen I can't open GP to look at it and see what state it's in becuase the program won't respond when trying to open it.
The only fix to date has been a full reboot - which happens about once a day sometimes twice. What does seem to be consistent is that Excel is involved in some way. Today, two users were using Integration manager and excel and (not using GP although GP had idle sessions running in the background from other users) and the system just decided to stop responding for some applications. It's not like an error message pops up and things stop working, it just sort of locks up in the background and you dont't know until you try to do something and relize an application is not responding or something.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be appreciated in order to try to fix this issue.
Thank you,
Rene
I should add that I am not a GP user nor am I the admin for the software - We had a 3rd party install and set up our GP software along with our Terminal Server.
