I want to know whether the EP in AX 2012 R2 is a website by itself; or it can only be integrated with any website; or it is just a page on a website?

The AX EP site is hosted on Sharepoint and it's composed from many apps create in ASP .Net
So, a EP is a normal website that can be composed also from Apps created in ASP.net that don't speak with Dynamics AX.
The Enterprise Portal can be deployed in an intranet, extranet or Internet environment.
