Warning: 919 The OPOS driver was not found - Zebra LP2844

We are updating our store equipment to run in the Windows 7 Pro platform.  I have a Zebra LP2844 bar code printer.  I have downloaded and installed the drivers, tested in the Zebra Utility and fine tuned the labels to work in Store Operations Mgr.  However, everytime I launch SOMgr, I get the Warning: 919 The OPOS driver was not found.  I went on the Zebra website and they had an OPOS driver for Win 7 and I downloaded it.  However, it only had the ZPL model LP2844-Z option to choose, which is not what I have.  I called the Zebra Support and they said only the ZPL models will have the OPOS drivers for Win 7.  They advised me to contact Microsoft to see if they have a packet that will fix this in their application.  Any direction on where I can find this?  Really do not want to enter another ticket just for this.

This error has nothing to do with the label printer. There is an invalid OPOS device driver defined for the station. See Store Operations Manager, Database, Registers, Register List, select the station, Properties, and review settings for Receipt Printer 1, Receipt Printer 2, and Cash Drawer. An OPOS driver is defined with an invalid name or one is enabled that does not exist.

Other possible OPOS entries include MSR, PIN Pad, Pole Display, and Scanner. You only need to define entries that are using OPOS drivers.

Once you remove, rename, or disable the offending OPOS entry, the error will no longer appear during POS startup.

As far as the Zebra printer goes, you should install the Windows driver if you are using custom labels created in Label Designer, or a Generic Text-only driver if you are sending printer commands (EPL) directly to the printer using labels created with Notepad.

Thank you for the reply, my recommendation would be to verify which Windows Driver the manufacturer recommends for Windows 7 and the printer you are using. I am not suggesting that you use an older one

    I am suggesting the following.

    1. If you have an opos utility on this machine and within that utility you tried to configure this printer? Delete it.

    2. If you open the RMS application and go to printer 1 or 2 depending on which number this printer is within the printer properties does it have a  checkmark in the OPOS? If so uncheck it.

    3. If you installed the driver installation disk for the older printer as it is the only one you had? Uninstall it.

    4. While you are confirming which Windows Driver you should use for this printer on Windows 7 with the manufacturer.

    5. I also would encourage you to ask if the manufacturer have a clean up utility to safely remove previously installed drivers before you attempt to re-install the correct ones. (if not)

I might suggest that you restore this computer and any other that you may have attempted "to an earlier date" before you attempted to do any installation of this printer.

This in my opinion would increase your success rate.

Start a clean install with the knowledge that it doesn't get configured using an OPOS Utility, It additionally doesn't get configured within RMS using OPOS drivers.

I believe, if this printer isn't configured using an OPOS utility, using OPOS drivers or configured in RMS to use OPOS drivers.

The possibility that you get any OPOS error associated with this printer are dramatically reduced.

If you follow this direction and continue to get an OPOS error, the error is attributed to another device using OPOS drivers not the printer.

    Hope this helps you.

I read through the article, but this is for another model than the one I have, LP2824.  Are you suggesting to use the same universal driver for the later model LP2844?  I do have the original Zebra disk that came with the printer.  Unfortunately, it does not have files for the Windows 7 platform.  The original disk was for installations in earlier OS Windows environments.

Like I mentioned above, I downloaded the Zebra drivers for this model for Win 7, but they do not include OPOS drivers, which is what the Warning that a launch of the applications keeps popping up.

    Thanks,

    LC
