Looking for an easy way to do annual standard cost changes

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We are currently on version 9 (upgrading in the new year) and it is time for us to do our annual standard cost update.

Normally we would do a macro that would load the new standards for any item that is purchased, this method would go quite quickly.  However the last few years have presented a challange as we cannot figure out a way to identify which items are on a BOM (this adds an addtional step in the macro that is not there for items not on a BOM).  Is there any easy what to run a report that can be exported to excel that would tell us this, or, is there another way to load the new standards into GP?

Thanks,

Jennifer Pegg

Actually, youi should set the standard cost for ALL items that are purchased to the latest or current cost.  Then you can edit this list of items to look for exceptions.  Even if an item is NOT on a BOM, it should have a standard cost.  The Make/Buy flag tells you which items are purchased.

Unfortunately Jennifer, the Inventory SmartLists do not include data from the Manufacturing tables, which is where the BOM details are stored.  You could create such a report with SmartList Builder but it doesn't exist out of the box.

Thanks Frank, we were hoping for a way to get in one report which items were a child part and which ones are not instead of having to run 2 reports and merge together.

    Jennifer,

The Bill of Materials SmartList under Manufacturing shows BOM components.  You could use this list to edit your update file and then enter the BOM components manually or with a separate macro.

    Hope this helps,
