Once a record has been Deactivated how do I prevent Users from re-Activating the record?

I have a custom PO entity that once a PO is Posted (Inactive) I need to prevent them from opening it back up.

Could you create a plugin on status change and if they are tying to change the status to active then stop them

    or

    disable the activate ribbon button

Using CRM 2013 SP1 (which includes Online), you can configure Status Transitions on Cases or custom entities. Basically, for a given status reason you define which other status reasons it can be moved to. I have not tried to do a circular reference here so that inactive cannot move to anything except inactive, but it is worth a try.

This should remove any disallowed status reasons / statuses from the user interface., and will certainly prevent users changing the status reason in a non-allowed way. You might have to explicitly hide "Reactivate" from the command bar by using RibbonWorkbench.

If you can't do a circular entry for this, add a status reason Inactive2, and only allow Inactive > Inactive2 and vice versa. If status reason changes to Inactive2, you could run a workflow to put it back to Inactive to keep things all the same for reporting.
