AX App Development / AX Connector for Mobile Applications

Hi there,

I have been reading through the white paper on "Developing Secure Mobile Apps for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012" and what I am wondering is this:

Is it possible to use the AX Connector for Mobile Applications for custom apps? The white paper itself only talks about setting up the AIF, Service Bus, AD FS, etc. by following the guide in the "Configure Microsoft Dynamics AX Connector for Mobile Applications" white paper but never explicitly says it is possible to use the AX Connector itself for custom apps.

From my understanding we need to build our own middle-tier WCF Service which replaces the need for the AX Connector. Is this correct?
