Named Printer problem

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

We have a customer running into the following issue:

I am having difficulties getting Named Printers at the USER level to “stay”.  If I change one user’s Named Printers, it wipes out another users named printer, at the USER level.   All of our users are using the same terminal server.

Any Idea why this is happening?

    RE: Named Printer problem

    Hi,

David Musgrave (the guy who actual wrote the named printers module) has several articles on various approaches to using Named Printers in a Citrix/Terminal Server Environment. Start here blogs.msdn.com/.../using-named-printers-with-terminal-server-revisited.aspx

    and explore from there.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    RE: Named Printer problem

I bumped into a problem like this at a client last year.  What was happening at this particular client site was the Network Admin had created a login script, which was destroying and recreating all of the users' printers at login - to resolve an issue related to another software product.

GP Named Printers could not keep the association when the printers were destroyed and recreated.  Turned out, there was an alternative fix to the solution the Network Admin had implemented, and GP Named Printers worked well once the login script was done away with.
