GP2016 r2 companion app service and App Store Business Analyzer

Hi,

Has anyone gotten the Business Analyzer in Windows App store (or Apple's) to work with GP 2016r2? It requires the companion app service which the previous versions did not need. I got the service running and configured, and according to the logs it is talking to the GP database, but the App cannot connect and gives no useful logs that is telling me what is wrong. Business analyzer inside of GP client works flawlessly along with other SSRS reports. But in this case the user does not want to run a full GP client.

I even installed an old version (2013) of the Business Analyzer Client just to see if it works - it does, but as anyone who has used it for any length of time will tell you, it crashes, freezes and is otherwise not fun to use.

I may have spoke too soon....

I checked with a couple of colleagues here and both stated that they had recently tested the Business Analyzer app with GP 2016 and ran into pretty much the same type of issues you mentioned seeing. Again, this is only the app that can be downloaded from the Windows or Apple store.

We're looking at it to see if it may be an issue with new SQL or what has changed, but don't have a definite fix at this time. A lot of development now is going into Power BI and ODATA, which is more where things are going forward.

I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks

    Thanks for replying, Derek

I have the domain, user, password and URL you described and entered it into the client but the connection is refused. But I do not know at what point the connection fails - there are no events in Event viewer and if there is a log i do not know where it is. I confirmed the client machine can ping the FQDN of the server and the username password combination is valid. The firewall on the server end is off as per domain policy but i did add a rule for 48650 port just in case. The certificate contains the appropriate FQDN and exists in the personal and trusted root stores on both the client and the server. without a helpful error message I do not know how to troubleshoot. And i do not know if the current Windows Store App is certified to work under 2016r2, and can find no evidence of any documentation that says it works for sure. Development on the App seems to have stopped in 2014 according to the app page. Also, I am seeing none of the errors in the app support page at technet.microsoft.com/.../dn508393.aspx

RE: GP2016 r2 companion app service and App Store Business Analyzer

Once 'Microsoft Dynamics Business Analyzer' is installed on the workstation, launch it and you'll see some sample report information that is showing. In the upper left-hand corner of the app, click the icon showing the three horizontal lines, and click 'Settings'.

--In the 'Settings' window, choose 'Configuration'.

--In the 'Configuration' window, turn off the 'Sample Report Mode' which will show three fields: Name, Password, and Service Connection.

Here, you'll logon as your domain account that has access to the SQL SRS report, Excel reports and/or MR reports, depending on what you chose earlier, and then for the Service Connection, you'll enter the same URL that you received from the 'GP Companion App Services' program:

                  servername.domainname.com/.../Apps

Click 'Connect' and it should make the connection to the server and the reports that you specified.

At this point, you can change roles, companies and also specify which charts and KPI reports you wish to view via the Business Analyzer app.

Let me know if this doesn't help you get it connected. I believe my testing was with Dynamics GP 2016 R2 but I can re-test to verify.

    Thanks
