How to Record Hired Manufacturing Process - You own Raw Material

Hi BC Community,

Is there any other way to process hired manufacturing in BC without using Assembly or Production Orders? By hired manufacturing, I mean 3PL-like manufacturing. We provide the raw materials, pay for manufacturing, transportation to and from the factory, and account for other related costs, and get back the finished product.

We currently use Assembly Orders to record raw material consumption. It works flawlessly 7 out of 10 times, as the raw material changes weight slightly due to humidity and other environmental factors. The Assembly lines must be changed to add the extra consumption as needed, but BC does not allow to record of more quantities than the remaining quantity. As a workaround, we change the /Qty Per/ for the line to increase the Qty Remaining Quantity.

Any help or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, it looks like this needs some customization, or you use Item Charge to assign the cost, but that doesn't affect the amount consumed.
You can contact your local partners to solve this problem together.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

    In reply to Zhu.

    Thank you for your reply.

It would definitely need customization or an add-on I haven't found yet.

Someone suggested using Purchase Orders to buy the finished product and a negative line for the finished good, then using the Explode BOM function to reduce components. I'll see if that could work, but I believe it would need customization to account correctly for the costs. Extra lines are added as Item Charge in the Purchase Invoice already being used to pay for manufacturing, transportation, packaging, etc.
