Difference between Financials for Its and Financials for Business Edition/remove Company created during Trial

(0) ShareShare

I have been using D365 Financials with my company O365 Licensing in trial mode.  As a Reseller, we received our IUR license keys and, although I am not an O365 Global Admin, I have been working with him on getting the appropriate configuration setup.  To help with the clarification, what is the difference between the two license types (Financials for IW and Business Edition)?

Also, I created a company during the trial time-period (Fabrikam Inc) and when I attempt to access it now, with what I assume is our IUR license, I receive the following error message:

I will like to use the company with the IUR version of Financials. Is there a way to do this? Is it possible to delete the Fabrikam company and re-create it? Or do I need to create a new company with a similar name?

    Hi Lisa,

The Financials for IW SKU is what gets assigned when you signed your organization up for the Dynamics 365 for Financials trial (or if you signed up pre-release when it was called Project Madeira). You get an unlimited number of users (well, there is a limit, but a very high number) with this SKU, but once you create a Trial company, the 30 day clock starts ticking on you. When it runs out, only the CRONUS company will really work. The other company / companies you have will give you a lot of permission errors.

Paying customers, and partners with IURs will see the Dynamics 365 Business Edition licenses and Team Member licenses. The former are Full Users, and the latter is another name for the Light Users. You O365 Admin will have to assign the Full User and Light User licenses from the O365 Admin Center. Note that a user cannot have BOTH the Financials for IW and a Dynamics 365 Business Edition or Team Member license assigned to them at the same time. Your admin will need to remove the IW license, and assign the Dynamics 365 Business Edition SKU.

You will use the same user name and password, and the URL for your Dynamics 365 for Financials tenant will remain the same. When you log in the next time, the Trial is Expiring / Trial has Expired notifications will be gone. All your companies will still be there, so unless you want to start fresh, you don't need to.

Source: First-hand experience as a partner that transitioned to IURs.

PS, once the IUR license is assigned, and you try to log back in, you should not see this error.

Another way to work around that error while you are still on the "IW" license is to forcibly log in to the CRONUS company, which is the default demo company. Depending on when your tenant was first provisioned, the company will either be called CRONUS US or CRONUS USA, Inc.

Let's say your tenant id is "summitsoftwaregroup", in which case you'd use this URL (one of the two below should work):

    Hi AJ,

Thank you for the clarification of the differences with the licensing. I had a feeling that was the difference, but there is nowhere that even discusses Financials for IW licenses or the difference.

I have been working with the O365 Global Admin regarding the IUR licensing, and I am setup as a Full User with the Business Edition license, and as you discussed, it is not possible to have a "IW" license and a Business Edition license.

I have also been given the SUPER permissions within the Financials application as well but when I attempt to login to the FABRIKAM company that I created during the trial timing, I am receiving the error message I posted originally.

Since I thought it maybe a license issue, I created a NEW company, CONTOSO, using the 'Create New Company' in the Settings window and I receive the same error on the new company.

I have logged out several times and even attempted to launch it from portal.office.com and am still receiving the error message on both companies created.

There is nothing I can do to troubleshoot the issue either, which makes it very frustrating.

    Hello Lisa,

Just to clarify, you are able to log into the sample CRONUS company, correct?  This is how you're verifying you have SUPER and are able to setup a new company I assume.

Is your user assigned the SUPER permission set with a BLANK company column?  The company column must be blank for you to be able to successfully create and sign into a new company.  Any other troubleshooting will require that I have the name of your tenant.  Feel free to PM that to me.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Yes, I am able to log in to the CRONUS company and using it to validate that I have the SUPER permissions and the Company column is blank. Here is a screen shot:

I will PM you the tenant details separately. One thing I did notice is I changed my role to Administrator of Users and Groups and under the Subscription plan, it is still showing as the PREVIEW_PROJECT_MADERIA_IW not the Business Plan. I have followed up with my O365 Global Admin but he is Out of Office today so I won't get any answers until Thursday.

    Hey Lisa,

The issue here is absolutely the missing licenses in the plans table.  I've already engaged with the server folks to fix this.  It'll probably be tomorrow (possibly overnight).  Thanks for sending me the tenant info.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Lisa,

This should be resolved now.  Please let me know if you're still having an issue.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

I am still receiving the error message when attempting to login to another company besides CRONUS. I logged into CRONUS as the Administrator of Users Role and reviewed the plans again. I see the other plans now, but all the users are still listed under the Financials for IW plan:

and no one is setup under the Dynamics Financials plan:

So, I am still having issues.

Go to the 'Users' window and run the Sync with O365.  Does that update it?  If that doesn't work let me know as I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is then.

    Thanks,

    Chris
