Let em start with a nice big disclaimer:
**I have no clue about CRM. I come from a server and storage infrastructure background, but today we ran into a very peculiar problem that has me baffled. So if i use any sort of terminalogy incorrectly, or call something a "thing-a-ma-bob" when in fact it is supposed to be called a "what-shall-me-call-it", please forgive me.**
I was wondering if anyone here has tried installing CRM 2011 onto volume mountpoints as opposed to drives with drive letters, specifically from a SQL perspective.
Our environment looks like this:
- Hyper-V Application server (Server 2012 R2 guest OS) on a Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster.
- Co-located/Consolidated SQL cluster, but with CRM's own instance.
- Mount points rather than drive letters for the SQL disks.
When we install, we get an error saying that there isn't enough drive space available, even though we have plenty. This is when the volumes in SQL are presented as mountpoints.
When we assign a drive letter to the volume instead of presenting it as a mount point, the installation is successful.
The reason for the mountpoints being there isn't enough letters in the alphabet to accomodate all the volumes (not our fault, we would have opted for the 100-letter alphabet if we knew then what we know now).
So, long story short, but has anyone installed CRM 2011 onto a SQL cluster using mountpoints? If you have, did you need to make any sort of configuration changes during installation?
P.S. The official feedback we got from Microsoft is that they have never installed it in such a configuration, have no case studies, and as such, such a configuration is not supported.
