We recently began having a problem when entering returns and having tax calculate for non-taxable customers. We can't figure out why this is happening. Is this something we inadvertently changed or a glitch?

Thank you so much. We did figure it out. We had our delivery method "Will Call" previously set-up as delivery, then we changed it to pick-up yesterday. Hence the change in the tax.
Hi Kim,
We cannot designate a customer as 'non-taxable'. If you are using the shipping method to determine the tax schedule ID (this is the default behavior) it goes by the delivery type. What I have done is to create a Schedule ID called EXEMPT PICKUP. And then mark it as a Delivery shipping type. That way, the system will always be looking at the customer's tax schedule, but I can still have my invoice marked with a Pick Up delivery method.
Kind regards,
Leslie
Thanks Leslie. One thing I don't understand is why would GP calculate tax on non-taxable customers regardless of whether it was delivery or pick-up?
Then I'm guessing that everything is working and it's the shipping method that's causing the sales tax calculation. Was the shipping method a 'pickup' method or a 'delivery' method. Also, how have you designated the customer as 'non-taxable'? Normally, this is done via the tax schedule assigned to the customer. If you are using the shipping method to determine the tax schedule, however, only delivery methods will respect the schedule. Click on the blue expansion arrow next to Item Number and check the shipping method. If it is a delivery shipping method, the 'Ship to Tax Schedule ID should be showing'. If it is a pickup delivery method, the Site tax ID will be showing. This tax schedule is probably providing your sales tax.
Kind regards,
Leslie
Hi Leslie, Yes it goes away.
Sales Tax is normally calculated according to the shipping method. If you expand the scrolling window, what is in the Shipping Method field for that line item? If you blank out the shipping method and move to the next line, does the sales tax go away?
Kind regards,
Leslie
