Possibility to move a higher inventory unit (BOX) for sales order picking, in a pick line for a lower inventory unit (pieces), without doing sales Overpick?

Dear all,

I would like to inquiry if, at the system, there would be a setup for the sales order work types, that would make the system pick only quantities at a predefined inventory unit (BOX), even when the order has a picking proposal for a lower unit (Pieces).

The example scenario is as follows:

- Item: Art1

- Quantity to pick for sales order: 55 pieces

- How goods are stored in the inventory: in boxes, each BOX contains 10 pieces, and has to be FULLY PICKED for the sales order's movement to the packing location

- Inventory unit = Purchase unit = sales unit = pieces

As is, the system proposes the following picking lines:

   - Pick: 5 Boxes at location xxx (50 pieces in total)

   - Pick: 5 pieces at location xxx or yyy (depens on availability)

It is desired, instead, the following proposal, WITHOUT incurring in sales overdelivery:

- Pick: 5 Boxes at location xxx (50 pieces in total)

- Pick: 1 Box at location xxx or yyy (depends on availability , moves 5 pieces in excess to packing location)

- After movement, the 5 excess pieces are not reserved, and not picked for the order's shipment.

Thank you in advance!

    Hi Henrique,

I think you can consider two options:

1). Assign a license plate to each box

    2. Change inventory unit of measure to box on the released product and configure a conversion

    Good morning Laurens,

Thank you for the answer! We unfortunately cannot follow either of the two presented options, as:

    - The license plates are managed per single stored pallet, and regards multiple boxes

    - Using the inventory unit as boxes implicates in reporting the on-hand inventory with this same unit, whereas the company desires to use "pieces" (the lowest unit) to manage the item's inventory.

We will be continuing to think in the possible workarounds for this case, in order to maintain this logic. If there are any other suggestions, we'll be happy to hear them!

    Thank you,

    Henrique

    Hi Henrique,

You can try one other option.

    - Add the unit of measure box in 'the restrict by unit' of the location directive

    pastedimage1678908484742v1.png

    - Add the unit of measure box in the unit sequence group of the item

    pastedimage1678909541399v2.png

    -  Configure a unit conversion

    pastedimage1678909586958v3.png

When I release the sales order to the warehouse, I get picking work for one box

    Good morning Lauren,

Thank you for the support, for this case i have already tried the above-mensioned solution, where the first directive line is restricted to the highest unit. However, it happens that, for a case where:

    Quantity released = 2 pcs

    1 BOX = 10 pcs

The directive would reject the first line of the directive, as 2 pcs < 1 BOX , and process instead the second line, which results in the creation of a picking work for 2 pieces.

    javascript:void(0);

If there would be a possibility to activate the option to round up to unit, such as for the raw material picking work type, i assume that this setup would be the right one to take.

    Thank you,

    Henrique

    Hi Henrique,

    Maybe still one other suggestion....

    1. Configure a maximum quantity on the work template for the sales order

    pastedimage1678993655001v1.png

    2. Sales order with line quantity of 6 pieces

    pastedimage1678993836688v3.png

    3. When I release the sales order to the warehouse, Dynamics creates two work id's. One for a box and one for the remaing part

    pastedimage1678993730258v2.png

However, I see a few disadvantages of this solution. 1) You get seperate work id's 2) In case of many different products and different quantity per box, you have to create many work templates.

    Regards,

    Laurens

    Dear Laurens,

Thanks for the thorough support until now! We have utterly decided for another solution for our case, by defining specific fixed locations for picking the single pieces in the warehouse. However, we will be considering all of your good insights for future cases!

    Best regards,

    Henrique
