Inventory dimensions and trade agreement journal lines - an old story

Hi All,

A very old story I mean cause nothing new since a long time. I've got a real doubt anyway and you certainly know what happens where you think too much, alone in your corner : nothing good, doubt becomes bigger and bigger.

To me, site and warehouse setup on trade agreement journal lines (purchase or sales, same battle) was managed with regard to storage dimension group and "for purchase/sales prices" ticked boxes.

Enabling boxes as below allows us to define a site or site/warehouse on price lines. "to allow" means "to give the possibility" not "to oblige" from my point of view. To me, the is the meaning of the help text.

This is the help text for "purchase prices" :

"Select this option to include the dimension as a criterion for determining the purchase price for an item. In the Journal lines, price/discount agreement page, you can create a trade agreement where you associate a purchase price with a specific dimension setup for an item. A dimension must be active to be available in a trade agreement setup. Select the Active option in this page to enable a dimension."

What I can observe :

  • I am able to create and post a new line without any site (so without any warehouse) - No error message - it seams to be allowed so.
    • In that case, system finds the price in the PO line
  • I am able to create and post a new line with a site but without warehouse - I've got only an alert message "Check dimension : warehouse" - no blocking control in that particular case.
    • In that case, system doesn't succeed to find a price in PO line

  • Using the Data Management workspace and the Open purchase price journal lines, I can observe that you can't import data without warehouse IF a site is filled in. Blocking control here.

To summarize, I want to understand what we can do, what we must do cause something isn't clear.

What I expect from the system is to allow all cases : no site/no warehouse, only site, site+warehouse. In PO lines, system should start from the inventory dimensions (site, warehouse) of the PO line, search for a specific price at the site+warehouse level, if not, search at the site level, if not, search at the "all site" level.

Maybe it is question of setup, maybe a bug - Please help me to understand.

Cheers,

Eric

    Hi Eric,

I think that is by design.

For only site, you can set up the price in item price of manage cost  tab in released product.

    Hi MATTGUO,

I don't think so - purchase trade agreement is the only way I know (except purchase agreement and price directly set up in released product form - Purchase tab) to manage pricing in PO lines (per vendor too)

    Hi Eric,

Thank you for your detailed information.

As I can see here, it more like a by-design feature and maybe you need test following scenario to know further.

    1. Set the storage dimension group > tick both site and warehouse for purch price to yes.

    2. Post a trade agreement journal: set price as $10 against a specified dimension set like site 1, warehouse 11. Then add a new journal line as $20 as site 1 warehouse none which as you mentioned above there is warning but system still allow you to post.

    3. Then you can navigate to PO list. Create a new PO line with the same item used in step 2, set dimension to site 1 warehouse 11 check if you can get $10, then remove the warehouse value, see if the price was changed to $20.

    4. If the price remains as $10, or system cannot retrieve price value. I may consider this is a system flaw, and recommend you to log a support ticket to Microsoft to know further.

As per the DIXF cannot import trade agreement journal lines if there is no warehouse value, it more like a bug on data management feature. However seems I know some customer do import that journal without warehouse. If you can replicated this and issue persists on the latest D365 version, still you can log a separated case to MS to fix this.

    Cheers,

    Humphrey
