SQL 2012 Upgrade from 10.0 To 2013

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We would like to use SQL 2012, and have a new virtual envirnment where we would like to perform the upgrade and then use this as the new production.

If we copy over our 10.0 databases and install 10.0, do we have to do this on SQL 2008, or can we do it in a compatability mode?

You can take your Dynamics GP 10.0 databases and put them onto a SQL Server 2012 environment in order to launch Dynamics GP 2013 Utilities against them in order to upgrade.

What you cannot do is launch Dynamics GP 10.0 against those databases on SQL Server 2012 as GP 10.0 is not compatible with SQL 2012.

However, if you are not on a version/build of Dynamics GP 10.0 that can directly upgrade to Dynamics GP 2013 and you have to go to a higher build of Dynamics GP 10.0 first, then you cannot move the databases over to SQL Server 2012 because Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities, at any build, will not work with SQL 2012.

You must be on 10.00.1779 or higher for Dynamics GP 10.0 to upgrade directly to Dynamics GP 2013 and SQL Server 2012.

    Thank you,

    Jonathan,

In your posting here, you say something that conflicts with what you had said. You say here that the upgarde can actually occur on a machine with SQL 2012 installed. We would loike to do that if at all possible.

    Dynamics GP 10/SQL 2005/Windows 2003 to Dynamics GP 2013/SQL 2012/Windows 2012

    1. The first step depends on the version of GP 10 you are on. If you are on 10.00.1779 you can upgrade directly to any build of GP 2013. However if you are on a build before 10.00.1779 you will need to upgrade to that build in order to upgrade to GP 2013. Click HERE to go to the GP 10.0 Download Page to grab the required patch.  Please note that if you are on a build later than 10.00.1779 you will want to check your upgrade path on the Upgrade Hot Topic page

    2. Before you actually upgrade to GP 2013 you will want to move your databases to your Windows 2012 machine that you will need to install SQL 2012 on. Refer to KB 878449 for move steps.

    3. You then can upgrade to GP 2013 on your Windows 2012 machine.

    Hello,

GP 10 is not supported with SQL 2012. If you move your GP 10 database onto SQL 2012 and have to run GP Utilities for any reason you will receive a compatibility error. If you are going to do an upgrade to GP 2013 which it sounds like I would recommend you do the entire upgrade with the databases on SQL 2008 and then do the server move to SQL 2012 after you have reached your final version/build.
