separating branch offices from head office into different SQL Servers

Hi,

Does Dynamics AX 2009 support multiple SQL Server?

we have branch offices in foreign countries and their access to AX is slow.

so I want to know if I can setup a local SQL Server database and a local AOS in the branch offices and replicate the data to the head office.

(But head office stuff has to be pushed back to the branch office)

I know that SQL Server support the replication, but is there something integrated in AX 2009 for this?

or does a 2 way replication setup in SQL Server is enough and supported?

I know that 2009 is old, but I do not have the choice here :-)

Are you sure you are trying to go about this the correct way?

Why not use a Terminal Server (Remote Desktop Services host) that is local to your SQL+AX servers, and the global users would VPN in (if they are not already on the same domain/subnetwork) to the RDS host and run AX in a RemoteApp, which would be like if it would be running on their local computer?

This way you would eliminate all latency-related issues completely. The only concern would come from the perspective of interaction with local printers and devices such as RF readers, which could be talking to AX directly. For those you need to explore how a Terminal Server could help (i.e. using a dedicated print server, mapping all printers there, and installing their drivers and making them available as shared printers on the RDS host).
