Mail Recipient (PDF)

Posted on by 425

I was wondering if anyone outhere has found a solution that will not require to have a full adobe licence on a workstation in order to this Mail Recipient (PDF) to work.  I tested in the past cute pdf and it used to work but now it doesn't.  Read the actual MS case and see that altough is something they make available as an option they will not support this issue.

We really will hate to paid 30 licenses of Adobe at $300 just to have this mail recipient icon work.

MS INCIDENT

12/4/2008 3:41:00 PM EST -- Tony Fernandez Hello, I was told that in order to have the Mail Recipient(PDF) option the end user need it to have adobe writer? right , I also test Cute PDF last year and it did work, but know some users eventhough they have cute PDF the option still gray out, can you help me? do you think this is perpaps a security issue? Also once it does work the default file name is the report rather than the PO# we are printing can this be changed? so that when you hit the Mail Recipient(PDF) would read PO000XXX rather than POP Purchase Order Blank Form.pdf Tony Attached files: PDF-Email.JPG (bytes: 67634) PDF-Email-Option.JPG (bytes: 90799) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12/4/2008 4:19:00 PM EST -- James Schauer Hello Tony, Thank you for contacting Microsoft Business Solutions Support. My name is Jim and I will be assisting you with your support request. SCOPE: The scope of this incident will be to determine why some users cannot use the "Send To | Mail Recipient (PDF)". ASSESSMENT: This issue is either caused by Adobe not being installed completely or correctly, an incompatible version of Adobe is installed, etc. To resolve the issue, I would recommend reviewing KB article 852539 "The Send To: Mail Recipient (PDF) option remains grayed out on all workstations when Adobe Acrobat Writer is installed" https://mbs.microsoft.com/knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;852539 I have attached it to this case as '852539-The Send To Mail Recipient PDF.doc'. Regarding using CutePDF, Adobe is the only brand that this has been officially tested and supported. I have seen some users who use free PDF writers downloaded from the internet like CutePDF. However, if you have issues, we won’t be able to extend our technical support to you for troubleshooting. Lastly, when printing the report to the screen and then selecting Send To Mail Recipient PDF, the default name of the PDF file is the name of the report in Report Writer. The only way to get the file to be named something else is to print the report to a file and name the file. You can do this by printing the individual PO and by printing from the Print Purchasing Documents window. ACTION PLAN: Please update the incident at your convenience. Let me know if you have additional questions or need further clarification. Thank you, Jim Schauer Microsoft Dynamics GP Support Attached files: 852539-The Send To Mail Recipient PDF.doc (bytes: 30208)

    Re: Mail Recipient (PDF)

The product was designed this way.

A workaround would be to print to a PDF printer driver.

Also, depending upon the types of documents you want to send, it may be better to look at alternative solutions. For example, Binary Stream Software has a utility for sending documents electronically. Also, Electronic Document Delivery in Business Portal can be used to send reports. A totally different option is to use SQL Server Reporting Services to generate reports. Those reports can be saved to PDF.
