Management Reporter will not convert Periodic/Current Colum to US Dollars

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am hoping someone can help me!

Here are my building blocks:

Row:

Typical P&L Row format - nothing fancy

Column:

Desc | US Cur Period | Canada Cur Period | US YTD | Canada YTD and a couple calculated fields.

Tree:

I have a tree that is using US Company and am using that dimension filter in the column for the two US columns

I am using the Canada company for the two Canada columns

Everything works just fine EXCEPT the Canada Current Period will NOT print in US Dollars, whether I select US Dollars in the Currency Display or not, I get only Canada values..  What is strange is that the YTD Canada column prints in US Dollars and I don't have to do anything to that column!

We are RU8.  ... in Report Viewer if I change the currency from US to Canadian, everything switches to CAD except the Canada current period because it's already in Canadian dollars.

Have you ever seen anything like this?  Oh, and in my Report format, I have the company name @ANY.

I've tried everything I can think of -- thoughts?

Thanks!

Heidi

We normally put in the reporting unit like you are for using the tree and then put in the currency source only on the ones that we have to translate to USD as USD.  For the companies that this is their functional currency we have nothing listed there.

BTW, we tend to run a test report that shows Local currency (no Currency Source) and then USD  on our Canadian and UK Company and then do a column that divides take the LC/USD and gives us a rate per account/grouping.  So we know we don't have issues.

Also, most companies have a Current and Average (BS is usually Current), (IS is usually Average) and then a lot of companies have a historical rate assigned for Retained Earnings.  That does mean that you have to take the difference between the Current and the Average and book it to Unrealized (GAIN/LOSS) on Fx for a month.

    Hi Susan,

Thanks so much for your response!

I will check the segment names and see if that has anything to do with it but I did find a 'sort of' workaround:

Here's what I had to do:

All my accounts did already have the currency assigned to them, but they were set at average. I changed them to Current.

Then, I had to go to the column format and select the display of USD, AND the currency filter of CAD.  This produced the results I was looking for.  However, I am not happy with it because I didn't have to do anything with the YTD column at all and those values are correct.

Plus, if the users enter anything in US Dollars in the Canadian company I am afraid it will filter out those transactions....because I have the filter on. It will not work without that filter.

    Seems like a bug????

Ran into this and although I had checked all of my currency setups it wound up being that in the company setup that although the account Format was exactly the same, the naming of the segments was off slightly.  They need to be named exactly the same and then refresh the data cache.  I am also assuming that you assigned the currency to all of your accounts since it is working in the YTD.
