Account and opportunity permissions

Hey guys  not sure if this has been asked already, but thought I'd put it out there.

A user is the owner of an account, and an opportunity exists under that account, but owned by someone else in a business unit.

Permissions are set to parent child Business Unit.

My question is, can the account owner work with that opportunity. And by extension, people in their business unit?

    Hello,

    If users who own account and opportunity belong to the same business unit and owner has privileges ParentChild for opportunities update he should be able to edit the opportunity.

    If you have only parent child access level in the Account entity , you wont be able to work on opportunity entity until and unless you have sufficient access  rights on Opportunity entity. Make sure user have Opportunity entity access  higher than user level access (Its depends on  your requirement which BU  user opportunity record has been created , if both user (Account owner and the Opportunity owner)are in same BU assign BU level access other wise assign Parent Child BU level access on the opportunity entity.)

    Owner matters only when you have user level access rights for the opportunity entity, as you mentioned you have parent child BU access rights for the Account Entity which means you have the access on account record which are created by user  in your business unit and  all child business unit users.Having Parent Child BU level access is not mean that you have the related entity access without having access on the related entity, you need to give related entity access as well.
