CRM 2015 Outlook Client Failed Authentication

Hi Everyone,

I have just done an upgrade. The outlook clients are unable to authenticate. I have followed all the troubleshooting steps using the configuration troubleshooting wizard thats on the CRM support site but my issue still cant be resolved. Below is an entry i found in the client config log file.

https://*ifd url*/XRMServiceus/2011/Organization.svc, Microsoft.Crm.CrmException: Authentication failed

  • I can log onto the crm environment internally and externally with no errors
  • I have used differ installers for the outlook client
  • Ive looked for update rollups for CRM 2015 but it looks like none are available

Your assistance will be appreciated

    Hi LethaboM,

Take a look at your ADFS server, is it fully up-to-date with updates?

This one I had once (the ADFS update noted in the end) support.microsoft.com/.../en-gb

    Good luck,

    Hi,

Thanks but its still giving me the same error in the logs. I have installed CRM 2015 update 0.1 and made sure that all windows updates are installed on the ADFS server as well :(

We have the same problem with a new instance of CRM 2015. Using ADFS claims based authentication. Works fine in IE but get this authentication error in Outlook client. Tried most of the troubleshooting steps already. Please update this thread if/when you get a fix. Thanks.

    Hi,

What ADFS version are you using?

Can you supply more logs? The current error is limited, it's most likely there is more information in the logs.

    (whipe out sensitive data)

    No proxy in between?

    Thank you,

    Remon

    Hello LethaboM,

Just wanted to know if you are receiving the following error message.

    >Exception during Signin Microsoft.Crm.CrmException: integrated_authentication_failed: Integrated authentication failed. You may try an alternative authentication method ---> Microsoft.IdentityModel.Clients.ActiveDirectory.AdalException: integrated_authentication_failed: Integrated authentication failed. You may try an alternative authentication method ---> Microsoft.IdentityModel.Clients.ActiveDirectory.AdalException: wstrust_endpoint_not_found: WS-Trust endpoint not found in metadata document

You may have a look at this article id

    CAUSE

This occurs if the WindowsTransport endpoint is not enabled on the AD FS Server

You may try the following action plan.

    RESOLUTION

    On the AD FS Server:

    1. Open the AD FS Management Console and in the left navigation pane, browse to AD FS |Service |Endpoints

    2. Locate the Endpoint called  /adfs/service/trust/13/windowstransport

    3. Right-click and Enable

    4. Restart the AD FS Service

Once this is enabled, use the direct organization URL, such as <yourorg>.crm.dynamics.com instead of the generic CRM Online option in the configuration drop down, otherwise configuration may fail.

Please mark my answer as verified if you found it useful.

    Hi all,

Thanks for all the responses. the below links resolved my issues. It seems that CRM is referencing an endpoint in adfs 2.1 that doesn't exist. This was an issue in CRM 2011 as well. There is a powershell script you can run or just download the hotfix from Microsoft.

    support.microsoft.com/.../2828015
