GP 2013 R2 and Lotus Notes 8.5.3

We have a client who was using the combination of GP 2013 R2 and Lotus Notes 8.5.3 to successfully email EFT Remittances for their vendors on a Windows 7 64bit machine.    The user has gotten a new computer with the same - Windos 7 64 bit, all software has been reinstalled (all the same versions) and we keep getting the error that there is no email association to create a default association.  We set it as a default program but still cannot get GP to recognize the email/MAPI compliant Lotus Notes.    Can anyone think of anything else that we can check to make this work?    We do know it is unsupported but if it worked previously, we must just be missing a step.....thank you!
