Cheque printing - MICR line font size question

Hello,

For those who had experience with printing cheque and aligning the MICR characters to fit within the specified bounding boxes, what font size are you using?

I'm struggling with the IDAutomation MICR font bundled with AX in order to make each individual characters fit.

If I set the font size to 11.88074, the characters will eventually overlap to the left.

If I set the font size to 11.88075, the characters will eventually overlap to the right.

SSRS does not allow more than 5 digits precision.

Maybe the SSRS report has to be modified to managed individual character as separate textbox object, although this is a cumbersome approach.

Canadian cheque format, AX 2012

Regards,

Eric

We have used MICR 13B with font 12 and also we had to buy a gauge www.amazon.com/.../B00482U8WG to test the printed cheque.

We are using IDAutomationMICR font with size 12 for the US Cheque. you might have to check set up  for check . Also can you provide screenshot of check print out ?

    Hello Ajit,

I'll see if we need to switch font; we do have a gauge, quite mandatory tool to perform alignment testing. Another suggestion I received was to split the micr code in 3 or 4 parts so the offset is minimized as each segment is forced aligned to its proper "bounding-box"

    Hello Sukrut,

Size 12 is definitely too wide for the canadian bounding box of each character. Screenshot is not necessary, it wont show anything useful, it is when a cheque is placed in the calibration gauge that the offset is noticeable, after 9 or 10 characters.

Another suggestion I received was to split the micr code in 3 or 4 parts so the offset is minimized as each segment is forced aligned to its proper "bounding-box". It is not as dreadful as isolating each character in a substr() on the SSRS report.

Bank should accept If your MICR is in line, setting every character in box is not mandatory. You can contact your bank and confirm.

Hi Eric, I am working on a task similar to yours and I already was able to find the font and size that works for me, however I am having a problem. If I print the very same check multiple times I got some small differences in the alignment of the micr line, this makes that sometimes the numbers don't fit properly in the gauge. By chance did you have the same problem? I am using an HP LaserJet M203dw for printing the report. Do you have any suggestion of how to troubleshoot the issue?

    Hello Valentin,

No, I didn't ran into this problem. I know that there can be differences between printers but on the same printer, the layout remained the same. You're also not outputting to pdf but always directly to the printer, on the same computer? Sending to pdf could create a different presentation when rendering ona physical printer. If you're getting the problem when printing from a different computer, then I would check if the printer driver version match between one station which prints correctly and the one who does not result in an appropriate output.

    Hope this helps,

    Eric

I was getting the problem even when I was always printing from the same computer, I just updated the printer driver at that troubleshooted the issue. Thanks for your prompt response.

    Hi Team,

I am facing one issue about MICR code.

Want to print Special characters A, B , C and D of the MICR code.

How can we convert letter C of the MICR line front end into respective symbol for MICR printing. I have to use that in X++.

    Please give your thoughts.

    Thanks.
