New to GP - Lots of Questions!

So I'm setting up a company - DB / Company ID - What should I name it?

How do I implement an old Chart of Accounts?

Is there a way to pin certain areas to a nav bar? If so how?

Any other general advice to give regarding GP?

Thanks!

Welcome to Dynamics GP.The path below contains the documentations for all areas in GP.Once you install GP,you can access this path.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2010\Documentation

also when you open every GP window and then press F1,the help documentations do show.

I started like you but through interacting with Gp gurus like Frank,Richard,Victoria,Mariano,Leslie,Mariano,Sivakumar,Mahmoud,Soma name them....I have really grown.

This is the best forum and feel at Home.

Kimberly, there are also a couple of books that can help when you're first starting out:

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Cookbook: www.packtpub.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-gp-2013-cookbook - this is written by MVP Mark Polino and has lots of helpful tips and tricks for using GP more efficiently.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Implementation: www.packtpub.com/.../book - this is my book, it will help with many questions for implementing a brand new company and other setup questions.

Administration>>Utilities>>System>>Delete Company.  BTW, Google is also a great resource for GP questions :)

Kimberly, Frank is 100% correct, as usual. Joining GPUG is a great way to start as well as sending questions our way. Perhaps you are free next month and can come to Convergence down in Atlanta. Think of it. Four days of hanging out with GP nerds. What a blast! GP is such an encompassing ERP solution it would be impossible to describe in a single reply.

Thanks for all the thoughtful ideas and links! I'll be sure to check them all out. One last short question - how can I delete a company?

    Thanks again!

Kimberly, welcome to the world of Dynamics GP!  You'll get lots of great advice on this forum.  I encourage you to also join GPUG - the Great Plains User Group.  There is a ton of educational resources on that site.  Hopefully, there's a GPUG regional chapter near you that you can plug into as well.

The company DB/ID can be whatever you want! The DB name will help SQL admins and your MS Partner know what company they are looking at too.

Just as an example: you could use TRS for the database ID and "Technology Related Solutions" for the long Company Name.

You will want to contact a partner for implementing an old COA, there is a way to integrate that with Integration Manager if you know how to map it over.

Also, you can usually right-click and add shortcuts in the navigation bars of GP. Here's a quick guide: community.dynamics.com/.../shortcuts-to-customize-your-microsoft-dynamics-gp-home-page.aspx

If you would like support with your new GP installation, please contact us at info@ibisinc.com

    Thanks,

    Jon D.

    Hi,

    Welcome to Dynamics GP!

Single questions will help narrow down others searching for similar problems. There is a wealth of information in the Administrator's guide along with online resources / blogs. A good set of blogs are listed at the top of this screen in the Blogs tab.

I would recommend also working with your GP partner to help install / setup GP if you are new to the GP world.
