Hi all

I'm tasked with entering our fixed assets into BC and I'm told it is vital that depreciation g/l entries gets linked to their respective job no. and budget lines. I cant find anything about this so it would be a big help if anyone could tell me if this is possible? and if so how do you manage this?

Thank you in advance - Julius

There is no functionality in BC to link depreciation expense to a job. The issue is that there is a potential for double expensing based on job WIP method.

I think you could possibly use the dimension functionality by creating a 'Dimension' called 'Jobs' and then applicable 'Dimension Values' for each of your 'Jobs'. You can then add Job Codes to the assets. You can also then use G/L Budgets for budgeting against the 'Job' dimension.

This is a decent work around but the depreciation expense will not show on the Job card.

    Yes, agreed.

Using a dimension for your 'Jobs' or 'Projects' won't create a link to the 'Jobs' module. It will basically allow you to do some GL based reporting (Account Schedules, etc.) using the 'Jobs' dimensions.
