D365: How to set default App to show after login?

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

Hello,

we set up a custom app for our D365 instance. Let's say it's called "MyApp". In "Settigings -> MyApps" I can hide all other apps by restrict them to certain security roles. That works fine and the relevant users only see "MyApp" in the available apps. But, after login the D365 default app is loaded instead of our custom app. Is there a way to set our "MyApp" to be loaded after a relevant user logs in?

Thanks for your help.

    Hello Alexander,

Right now there is no good way to use that 'My Apps' page to automatically open up the default app for a user.

There is however the new Dynamics Homepage, which defaults to opening the first available app, if a user only has access to one app.
The URL for this is easy to remember: https://home.dynamics.com/
(this is also the URL that opens if any user clicks the 'Dynamics 365' tile in the Office 365 app launcher)

    ----

If you don't see the app you want there, make sure to click 'Synchronize' or 'Sync'

    ----

To improve the choice of which app should open first (just in case a user can access multiple apps)

    1. click 'Preferences'
    2. Enter the full App Url

    Home this helps you!

    Hi Michel,

    thanks for your reply.

This sounds like a really nice method but unfortunately the desired app doesn't start. Even if I inter the correct URI in user preferences. The interersting thing here is that no app all all starts automatically. I allways stay in the "app choose screen" after logging in to https://home.dynamics.com. Is there something to configure to enable auto start of apps?

    Kind regards,

    Alexander

    Hey Alexander,

When the new Dynamics Homepage has previously been opened and shows multiple apps, it will default to the behavior of not opening the 'default' app.

You'll find that this behavior is different when someone clicks on the 'Dynamics 365' tile in the Office App Launcher. This tile opens this URL, which forces the page to always open the configured launch app: https://home.dynamics.com/?autolaunch=true

This URL is less easy to remember but, should do the trick. I hope you can create a bookmark for your users or convince them to always click the 'Dynamics 365' icon from the Office App Launcher.

    Hi Al and Michel,

I had the same issue and couldn't find customization solution.

    JavaScript worked for me though.

Code is here, hope it helps.
