Using function keys as shortcut keys in Retail POS

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello all. I want to add a few shortcut keys for the POS. I go to Retail -> Setup -> POS -> Keyboard mapping groups. I created a group and see my available options. But it does not look like I can use function keys as shortcuts. For example, we are currrently using Dynamcis RMS and implementing AX 2012 R3. In RMS we have a shortcut key, so the cashier can press F and search for a customer. Is there any way of achieving this? We are using Dynamics AX 2012 R3 CU9. Thanks.

Okay thank you. I was afraid it would require a customization. I was hoping to be able to find a way to use the function keys out of the box.

I think, you can’t get that using the standard setup. You could take a look at AX retail SDK to create a service that captures user’s keys.

Yes. That works, because the 'F' character has an ASCII value associated with it. What I want to do is use the function keys i.e. F1-F12. Or even better, extend it by also being able to use things like Shift-F1 or Alt-F3. Anything like that.

    Thanks again.

I have setup a Keyboard Mapping,

    1.Retail essentials > Channels > Setup > POS > Keyboard mapping groups.

Mapped the key “F” to Customer Search.

    2.  Retail essentials > Channels > Setup > POS > Profiles > Hardware profiles.

And assigned keyboard mapping to a hardware profile.

    3. Execute Sync jobs again.

    4. In POS pressed “F” and it displays customer search screen.

This is what you pretended ?
