Marketing List Versus Campaign

Our marketing department is looking for a simple way to keep track of attendees at various business conferences.  It seems like the easiest way to do this is to create a marketing list, for example, 2013 Midwest Conference, and then assign that to each person that attended.  Is this a reasonable or correct approach?

Absolutely, this is exactly the intent of marketing lists. In this case I would recommend a static list rather than a dynamic one. Campaigns would potentially be used down the road to continue to communicate with this same group you first interacted with at a conference. LMK if you need more information.

    Hi Tim,

I recommend using Campaign Responses for registrations or for past attendance.  This makes it easy to use Advanced Find to create lists of those who are registered.  Check out this blog and see what you think.

The reason Marketing Lists may not be a good solution because they should be seen as temporary.  Meaning, when you are done using a particular marketing list, you may delete or deactivate it.  (Otherwise, you may have hundreds of marketing lists).
