Dynamics GP 2013 R2 Workflow - Sending alerts to Gmail or other Email accounts

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if this is possible some how. We have a customer that uses a domain for their employees so they can use workflow but they use Google business apps for their email. Is it possible to put in the gmail address on the domain user account so they can receive notifications for Purchase Orders? Or does it only work with Exchange? We have already set up the smtp server and tested that it can send out the alerts but we need the alerts to go to the right place.

Brady

    Hi Brady,

Did you get this working, I am trying to get an almost similar setup working.

As long as the user is logged into the domain when they open the email and click the link, it should work fine with Gmail.

I have a test server setup using hMailServer and Workflow e-mail notifications and actions work fine.

    Hey Ian,

I'm not sure if I completely follow you.

The user will log in with their domain account to the server. If they open up outlook, they manually put in their own private gmail account. This doesn't create the link for the system to be able to see that this Domain account is linked to that private gmail account. (or are you saying that if I update the Domain account with their Private email address, that GP will be able to see that in active directory and email the notification to that address?)

    Thanks,

    Brady

Sorry for the delay. I've been onsite with clients.

The email is sent using the email settings in Workflow Setup.

The recipient is, as you say, determined by the settings in the Active Directory account.

My latest book covers the Workflow 2.0 setup and usage if you want a more detailed explanation (not that I won't expand further here if required).

I also have a Customer that is asking me to assist them in getting workflow enabled with gmail.

I purchased Ian Grieve's book for Workflow 2.0, but am still struggling to find specific instructions for the correct configuration.

    Hello Ken,

Under System >> Workflow Setup, set the smtp as follows using a valid google/gmail account and credentials - and confirm if it gets to work.

Thanks Peter. I've configured the workflow setup as per your instructions (including port 465). Still doesn't work.

Try port 587 and mark This server requires a secure connection (SSL).

You will also have to launch your web browser and navigate to the Less secure apps page (myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps) and change the toggle to On.

Thanks Ian. That was how I originally had it configured. Unfortunately, the test email doesn't send.

Additionally, the gmail account I'm attempting to use, is also associated to the AD Account I'm logged in under. Is there something else I should be looking at?
