Dynamics SL 2011 crystal reports not exporting to excel application

I know this was re-introduced in 2015, but is there any way to use a different report viewer in sl2011.  we just finished a 2011 upgrade and the client is more than mildly upset about the change in export functionality from the SL2011 report viewer.  Has anyone been able to get around this?
