Permissions error when attempting to add HR to GP Dynamics 2015

Hi,

I'm an IT admin for a company running GP Dynamics 2015 on a Server 2012 instance. Recently I was requested to add in the Human Resources module in order to allow for training this week, but every time I attempt to install it, I receive an error stating "Dexterity Runtime: You do not have permissions to open this file."

I've run through the knowledgebase article on how to correct the issue, all four suggested fixes, but nothing has worked. I have full access to all the dictionary files, all the reports, and every folder the files are stored in. The installer and system have full access. I'm truly at the end of my rope here. If it's any help, it pops the error up immediately after the StartServices step.

Has anyone else run into this before or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you ahead of time,

Connor

    Hi Connor!

    I wouldn't call it a stupid question. :)

Since you are unable to create a case online you can call in to have the case created at 1-888-477-7877.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

    Thomas,

I apologize for what's probably a stupid question, but how would I got about opening a case with you? When I attempt to, I get an error that my account isn't associated with a CustomerSource account and that I cannot open a case without being as such. Please let me know!

    Thank you,

    Connor

    Hi Connor,

So I have been researching this issue extensively this early morning unfortunately, I had thought I had a possible solution however after re-reading your post I see you have already gone through the KB article as well as verified you had full access to every dictionary and folder in the Dynamics GP folder. The only additional thing I can think of is to try running Dynamics GP as an administrator ( Right click run as administrator). Without being able to stream into the environment it limits how much I can actually assist.

Another thing that you can do is open up a support case with us here at Microsoft Dynamics GP Support and we would be able to stream in and see what is actually going on.

Sorry, I don't have much more.

No luck on my part. I added that account, gave it full access, gave everyone full access, restarted and disabled UAC temporarily. Still getting the permissions error :\

I just wanted to say, thank you for your reply :)

I went ahead and made a local account with full access to all the files and folders involved along with giving the users full access as well. I'm still unable to access any of the files though...

I'm going to attempt a reinstall and see if that clears out any errors. I was hoping not to have to do that, but it seems to be the only thing I haven't tried yet that comes to mind immediately. I'll post an update on how it goes.

    Hi Connor,

I have run into this problem many times. Too many times. My answer is not the 'best practices' answer, but I've had to add users to security. I've added the admin user specifically and authenticated users. If necessary, I've added All Users. I've taken the security away after I was finished, but my goal was to get the software installed, not to solve a security issue when installing the software. Stuff like this started happening with 2013 (in my world). I've had to add the local user  to security specifically in order to give them access to folders on their own machine! Again, I'm not sure why, but my mission was to get the software installed. The file it's trying to open (I think) is the Dex.ini file. If you look at the hard drive you'll see all of the other files have been installed. I changed the security back to the way it was when I started, and everything still ran fine.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
