Opportunities owners reassigned randomly

Good morning,
 
We had a problem with our CRM. A week ago we discovered that, somehow, the owners of opportunities were jumbled. For instance, an opportunity created by me a week ago suddenly was owned by another person. We have no idea what happened. Is there any precedent for this? What solutions exist?
