Detailed Employee List - mask SSN

Posted on by 245

Hi,

I'm have to mask every single Social Security Number in the Payroll Reports. I've done every single report, except for the Detailed Employee List. Don't know how to do it since it's a string, String132. Has anyone ever done this and how can I do it? Thanks in advance!

    Hi Douglas,

Unfortunately, that was the result of using rich formatting. I'll post it on my blog so that you can get a better look at the screen shots.

    look on

    dynamicsconfessions.blogspot.com

give me a couple of days.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Hi Douglas,

If it would help, I can send the images to you in files - or DropBox sharing. Drop me an email at leslievail@earthlink.net if you want to take this off line.

    Kind regards,

Yes they were.  I know when I posted some other screen shots, I used the Rich formating on the message.   Then I did an upload of an image.    A little bit more hoops!

    Douglas,

Seems like I heard something about that too.

Boy, those screenshots are more than a 'little' fuzzy, they're downright unreadible!

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

I know this does not help with the current issue, but I seem to remember reading that at some point in the future (GP2014\2015) the social security number wil masked within GP and reports by Microsoft.   (To lazy right now to go look for it!).

    Hi Guys,

The String 132 field is not a single field. Take a look at the report and then take a look at the layout. I think the String 132 calls the sub reports. This is why it's not so easy as a calculated field. Take a look at the image below:

The payables posting journal works much the same way. Here is the printout:

    Here's the layout:

This is a little fuzzy because the pictures are so small, but if you look at the actual reports, you will see what I mean.

So, I'm back to using a third-party software:

Reports Viewer by Flexible Solutions (Victoria Yudin)  http://www.flex-solutions.com/GP-Reports-Viewer

Dynamics Reports Manager by Rockton Software http://www.rocktonsoftware.com/products.aspx?p=3

    Both are excellent products.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

The UPR00100.SOCSCNUM is defined as CHAR(15). I wonder why they convert it to String 132 for that report.  Is there any way to pull the UPR00100 field direclty and not use the calculated field?

    Thanks for the replies!

    Richard,

Thanks for the tip! I did that to many reports and they work just fine, but that only works if the SSN is a "single" field, when the field is a "string" it doesn't work.

This option creates a calculated field for the Social Security Number data only, the Deailed Employee List field is a "string" and if I'm not mistaken it reads form table UPR_MSTR, so it shows many other employee data. I was trying to edit the string but it looks like it can't be done.

    String 132

    Leslie,

No worries, I'm using Crystal for another report that I need to change the voucher number to document number. Thanks for the help!

I haven't recenlty been ask to do this but I know I have done this previosly for clients and the reports have upgaded just fine ove the years. This is the trick "XXX-XX-" # FUNCTION SCRIPT( RW_Substring UPR_WORK_Check.Social Security Number 6 4 ) to the whole thing. Let me find a report dictionary that has this in it and I will confirm.
