Configure Email Router after upgrading to CRM 2013

Hi All,

I want some guidance to configure Email Router profiles after upgrading to CRM 2013 where System would be upgraded from CRM 2011 to CRM 2013 with new application and database servers and CRM 2013 email router would be installed on application server. There isconsiderable count of Incoming & Outgoing profiles configured in current CRM 2011 Email Router. Is there any way to migrate these profiles to CRM 2013 email router in order to have minimum downtime; may be using current EmailAgent.xml files or something instead of reconfiguring profiles all over again?

Any suggestions/pointer would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

JayshriP

    Hi JayshriP,

Check this out, although it is for crm 2013 to 2015

Thanks for reply Surmeet. Here we will not do in-place upgrade. We will have new server machine where we would be installing CRM 2013 email router.

In this scenario, how can we retain the configurations of email router?

    Thank you.

    Hi JayshriP,

Then you can install the new email router on the new machine and replace the files there mentioned in the technet Article.

    Hi Surmeet,

After upgrading CRM server to 2013, there would be changes in email router configuration mainly the server version, url, deployment id which will be referred in Email router configuration files. So, I doubt just replacing files would work. And editing configuration files don't seem supported and reliable approach.

That's the reason I am looking for any other automated approach.

    Please share your thoughts.

    thank you.

    Hello Jayshri,

As you are installing on a new server, you can follow the below steps.

    1. Backup the config files from CRM 2011 Email Router.

    2. Install CRM Email Router 2011 in New Server and replace the files from backup.

    3. Perform In-place upgrade of Email Router from 2011 to 2013 in New server.

With this you should have the config files also updated to CRM 2013.

    Thanks for reply Manoj.

Again the issue would be in step 2, I need to edit files to modify deployment Id, Server Url. Replacing files from backup AS IS would not work. Correct me if I've misinterpreted.

    Thank you.

    Hello Jayshri,

There is no need to edit anything in the configuration files if you are replacing them in the same Version (CRM 2011 with same Update rollup). The configuration will be AS IS.

If you are doing an upgrade without changing any deployment details (Like Server URL) there should not be any impact following the above process and No changes are required.

If in case Server URL is changed, you need to reconfigure the Deployment profile and configure the mapping of Queues/users to respective Incoming and outgoing profiles. You will get all the incoming and Outgoing profiles configured AS-IS.

    Hello Manoj,

Thanks for your response. As upgrade would be done using new servers, deployment details including server url, deployment id would be different. So how profiles would be preserved AS IS?

    Will give a try though.

    Thank you.
