D365FO COGS FOR SERVICE ITEM SALES ORDER PROCESS ONLY

Hi,

I have a requirement to capture the cogs for service product during sales order process and I have seen the many blogs which says that it can be done via Charge code but for the charge code setup what posting type should be selected, for the debit side I can assign GL code for COGS for service item with cost of goods sold posting type and GL code for credit side is clearing A/C (temporary liability) for COGS but what will be the posting type.

And another doubt about settlement of clearing account which suggest to clear it with some allocation or payroll expense GL account. And COGS is captured expense in P&L & same with allocation/payroll expense account which is also captured in P&L expense. I need the clarity on this allocation account

With this process clearing account will be settled and balance will be zero and COGS & allocation/payroll will show in the P&L as expense.

Is this correct ? Or is there any other ways to captured the COGS in SO process without inventory in books.
I have the same question (0)

    Hi Dolly,

Can you share a link to one or more of the blogs you read?
Can you also share the expected ledger transactions? Is there a reason to use the clearing account? Have you considered posting it directly on a payroll allocation account?

Andre has requested additional clarification from you. We will await your response before providing further guidance.

At this stage, I am assuming the objective is to capture service cost for margin calculation purposes, though I may be incorrect. It would be helpful if you could elaborate on the business process and explain why capturing COGS for services is required. With that clarification, I can better advise on the appropriate approach.

    Hi Andre,

This is the blog i have seen. Solved: COGS setup for service item

Let me provide you business requirement, business was capturing their COGS with inventory transaction and service products do have standard cost and set up the service product with std cost to capture the cogs. However, those are service products and in the end of year they remove the inventory as there is no physical inventory available. So in D365, they wanna check if it is possible to capture COGS for service product with std cost without any inventory transactions or on-hand inventory. D365 doesn't allow to create the service product with stocked checked and having standard cost item model group.

I have checked that charge code it is a possible way but I am little confused with the GL account set up and their accounting effects in the financial reports.

It will be great if you or anybody else can help me on this.

Hi @André, other blogs said to create service product with stocked checked but i believe that will not fulfil the requirement because costing version is created for std costing method and service product doesnt allow to select std cost. I am unable to find the blogs link now.

Here is the voucher transaction wherein i have setup charge code with ledger A/C in both debit & credit with posting type COGS, invoiced.

I have not considered directly posting it to allocation/payroll GL. If it is correct then no need to enter the General journal posting to clear the clearing account balance, right but I need more clarity for allocation/payroll GL why we are using it and what will be the final accounting effect with that.

    Really appreciated your input :)

    Hi Dolly,

Apologies for a late reply. I thought I replied, but most likely missed the Post button. In a costing version, I'm able to add a service item, depending on the settings on the item model group. Have you checked yourself if you can add the service item?
