Hello,

I often asked by peoples about AX that on which language/platform whole AX application(AX setup) is built on by Microsoft ? might be this is stupid question but even i failed to answer.I know X++ language is used to customize/developing AX application components . Does this is only primary language for building whole AX application??

Appreciate for your comments

Yes, X++ is the primary language used for application code of Dynamics AX. Not the only one - e.g. EP uses C# as well.

The kernel was  originally written in C++, although Microsoft seem to be doing most new stuff in managed languages, especially C#.

The core kernel is written in C++, but it uses a lot of external assemblies (DLLs) nowadays, which are managed code written in C#. It has it's own developer IDE, which consists of MorphX objects, X++ language, and in more recent versions you may use the .Net framework as well which is interpreted in X++.

Thanks Martin, what actually AX kernel includes : system classes or something??

All kernel logic needed by AX processes - communication with database, rendering UI, compiling code, you name it...

It is a compiled C++ x64 executable, with external assemblies built in various languages, containing everything from the language interpreter, communication protocols, thread and user management, rendering, polling routines for the batch framework, pretty much everything that happens transparently in the background to make things work.

    Interesting!!

The core Kernel is written in C++ with external assemblies(DLL) which perform the basic functionality for AX and above of that X++ is used for customizing AX application...right

In addition to above , the MorphX IDE is also built on C++ as well

That is correct. Also some parts of X++ code locked (some of them can be found within the System Documentation node in the AOT) belong to the kernel, and is not exposed to developers.
