Organization hierarchies with standard reports

ReportReport

Hi,

can any of the standard reports be used with a reporting tree of type "Organization hierarchy".

We tried several of the reports, such as Income Statement in USRT using hierarchies "Retails stores by region", "Retail stores by business unit", but none worked.

Regards,

Jan

    Hi Jan,

Can you explain what type of report you are exactly looking for? What is the expected result?

We were aiming to have the report tree with the organization hierarchy with business units.

    Hello Heli,

The financial reports have those hierarchies built in.

All other reports don't make direct use of it without further modification.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Thank you Ludwig

Do you mean the Report Options?

The Report Tree is not active in the reports we were testing with USRT, and while we tried to activate that with FRD the reports  failed with that turned on.

    Hi Andre

Within the Financial Reporter, you can attach a reporting tree to a report. This will activate the drop-down in the report viewer, and will allow you to filter the report data.

Say, for example, you have an organization hierarchy in F&O, with a legal entity, and business units:

    - LE1

      -   BU1-1

      -   BU1-2

Now, if I were to attach this Organization hierarchy to a Financial report - I could run a Financial report, say P&L, and using the drop-down in the report viewer - I could show figures for the company as a whole (LE1) of for select a singular business unit, say BU1-1.This is the expected behaviour as explained by Microsoft on their YouTube channel.

Given this expected result, we tested the functionality with Contoso reference/demo data, we found it not to be working, except in the most simple case (a hierarchy consisting only of Legal Entities, without any Org Units below LE-level).

Here is a working example. The Tree "Contoso holdings" only contains Legal Entities

    working_5F00_sample.png

Trees with Organization units, other than Legal Entity will not work. Here is an example:

    income_5F00_statement_5F00_for_5F00_retails_5F00_stores.png

The question is, if anyone could suggest a default report which could be configured to work with an organization hierarchy, showing levels below Legal Entities.

Why this would be useful, is because any Organisation Hierarchy updates should automatically reflect in financial reports, without the requirement of having to maintain reporting trees separately. MR has reporting trees maintained within the editor interface, and reporting trees automatically integrated from F&O (Organisation hierarchies). It his this second type of reporting tree that we would like to make work.

    Kind regards,

    Jan

RE: Organization hierarchies with standard reports

    Hi Ludwig

When you say financial reports have those hierarchies build in,  are you referring to filtering options within the report viewer, or the setup options in Management Reporter?

Yes, we are talking about financial reports, and those generated by MR in particular. If you'd like to see my response to Andre's response above for more detail.

As you are saying, financial reports have those hierarchies built in, and you would attach the hierarchy to a report in the report editor (Click-once app). Default reports in Contoso are not configured with any reporting trees, and we are keen to demonstrate those with a reporting tree set-up using standard Contoso demodata and standard Contoso  organisation hierarchies.

    Such as

    - Income Statement in USRT using hierarchies "Retails stores by region", "Retail stores by business unit"

Thefore, we have changed report configurations in MR, by attaching a reporting tree to a report configuration. We have so far found these not to be working, except for a simple case with only Legal Entities. Other organisation units will result in an empty report in the report viewer with some helpful guidance, asking the user to confirm the selection of the organisation unit, etc..

    Kind regards,

    Jan

    Hello Jan,

I was referring to what was previously know as 'Management Reporter'.

Can you elaborate on the issues that you had when you say that you have found them not to be working?

What did not work exactly and why?

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

thanks for the response. I have added further details to the earlier response I wrote to Andre. There is now a screenshot both a working case and a non-working case.

    Kind regards,

    Jan

    Hi,

Do you have vouchers posted on cost center 19, 20, etc. in USRT?

Also, can you check the year and period for which you run the report?

In your first screenprint, I see 2021 while the second one shows 2016.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

RE: Organization hierarchies with standard reports

    Hi Ludwig,

the problem is that we can't produce any report - with a reporting tree of type "Organization hierarchy" if there are organization units, other than Legal entities in the tree.

The intention behind this post was to ask if anyone can produce any working example in Contoso, using a tree with (for example) Departments and Cost Centres.

If yes, we'd be keen to see an example specifying the Report Definition, and the Report Tree Definition, to see if we can produce the same.

    Kind regards,

    Jan

p.s. Meanwhile, we have tested with a custom hierarchy, posting new vouchers with relevant dimensions - but the end result is the same. I am planning to use the response above (with the screen-shots) to file a bug with Microsoft, however I am hoping someone to prove us wrong
