Hi all,

Can you please let me know is it possible to move Legal entity from DEV to TEST?  Like export or import.

I have created a new legal entity for Japan in DEV.  That need to create in TEST also. Shall I go for manual creation?

Please give me more shed on this

Thanks!

    Hi Arpan,

Like mentioned above, the best is using data import export framework. You can actually do some setup in the production environment to be used as golden config and restore a backup in a test environment for UAT testing. Based on the results, you can correct some setup and test again. When this is complete, you can use DIXF for the import like mentioned by Nikolaos.

Please don't use the method provided by Jay above. This is error prone as it exporting record IDs as references instead of natural key values (DIXF is taking care of this). During import, it will not get the correct references.

My recommendation is to create the legal entity manually, then import master data such as customers, vendors etc via DIXF templates.

Then you might need to migrate some open orders, also via DIXF.

And finally, create inventory and ledger opening balances via journals.

None of this data is supposed to come from a dev system. You need to migrate it from your customer's existing system (the one that this Japan company is using before AX). Setting up the test system is your rehearsal for setting up the prod system, as mentioned.

I hope that you have some functional consultants on board that can take the lead in this. And that some of them has experience of AX golives and can bring their experience to the table. Because otherwise there is a very high risk for problems.

    thanks Nikoloas and Jay

actually, the customer is new in to AX. i don't think they will do any thing in AX. They will provide the require things , we need to do all things behalf of them.

kindly suggest me the best option please. because we need to think for future like PROD also.

    that is the main challenge

please give me more shed on this

    Hi @rp@n,

Nikolas is right. however if you are comfortable to do this with your own risk you can use data export/import utility under system admin module. Below is the link to get idea about the same.

You can't copy a legal entity like that.

You can export / import data via Definition groups or DIXF, to help you with the process.

But normally I would not think about moving data from dev to test, perhaps to other direction.

In the test your functional consultants should set the company up in a way that they will one day set it up in prod. If your customer is asking you to set up the test company, then who will be responsible for setting up the prod company properly? You? Are you confident in doing that? If not, please discuss this topic with your customer. The setup for test system should be a rehearsal for setting up the prod system.
